Tutor and Student Discover the Joys of Our Library System

Tutor Lauri and a READ RVA student enjoy working as a team.  Since the student needed some extra assistance with understanding the concept of author’s point of view when reading, the pair decided to embark on a library adventure.  Together, they visited the shelves of the library where they meet.  They had a great time pulling random books off the shelves from various sections of the library and then reading sections together to determine the author’s point of view.  They enjoyed reading from a wide variety of genres including biographies, historical fiction, children’s books, mysteries, and romance novels.

Motivated by their fun library ‘scavenger hunt,’ the pair decided to explore other library branches by visiting a different branch each month.  They have been enjoying selecting, finding, and then exploring several Richmond and Henrico libraries.  While at each branch, they stop by the circulation desk and ask the librarian, "What are your favorite things about this library?"  This question has yielded many great responses!  They’ve learned that several locations offer free notary services, book clubs, children's science club bookbags, cozy fireplaces, free online subscriptions to Rosetta Stone, Consumer Reports, and several magazines.

Kudos to our student and tutor for finding and using such valuable community resources together!
